About powder coating
Powder coating is a finishing process in which dry, free-flowing, thermoplastic or thermoset powder material is applied to a surface, melted, and hardened into an even coating. Powder coating is better than traditional liquid paint in every aspect. It is more durable with a highquality finishing and it has a wide range of colours and textures. In short, powder coating is the modern painting.
How it works
Powder coat is dry coloured powder applied electrostatically using a
powder gun to metal surfaces. The powder coating gun gives the powder
a positive charge which is sprayed to a metal that is connected to the
ground wire. The process is known as Electrostatic Spray Deposition
(ESD). After applying the powder coat, the metal is put in a curing oven
which is heated at 325 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit resulting to an
activation of the coat to chemically react to produce long molecular
chains resulting in high cross-link density. These molecular chains are
very resistant to breakdown.
Advantages of powder coating
DurabilityThe powder coating process produces a long-lasting and durable, hard finish that is both protective and decorative. Demonstrating more resistance to impact, moisture, chemicals, and extreme weather than ordinary paint, powder coatings offer greater protection from scratches, chipping, abrasions, corrosion, fading, and general wear.
Requires No Maintenance.
Unlike a metal, a powder-coated product requires no maintenance. You won’t need to repaint it, reapply the powder coating, stain it, seal it, or otherwise treat it.
Tougher and Better Finish
Powder coating creates a tougher finish than regular paint. Powder coating is also better with textured finishes.
Different Colours
Although most people stick with standard colors like (black, white, tan, brown), you can select any color of the rainbow for your powder coating.
Environmentally Friendly
This an eco-friendly option as it is reusable and recyclable. Thermoplastic coatings especially can be reshaped very easily, unlike thermosets. The powder is also used precisely with minimal wastage, unlike paint, where you experience a lot of oversprays.
